Days 2 & 3: Rain, rain go away!

DAY 2
Day 1 ended at 1 AM, so Day 2 started at noon. It was a rainy day and by the time we got out of the hotel it was about 2, so we decided to have a low-key day. We walked around and splashed in some puddles (a novelty when you've spent the past few years in the desert)...

Then we grabbed "breakfast" at 3 PM from James Deans...

Went for a swim...

Had a picnic of klobosa (kielbasa), haluska (made with potatoes, bacon and sauerkraut) and proscietta (ham) for dinner.

and hung out and ate some gummy bears in the executive club.

Apparently that was enough for Day 2...

DAY 3
Day 3 was our first day of school! It was another rainy day, but we made it over to the school (walking, metro, transfer to another metro, bus, walk). Everyone was wonderful. The teachers are fantastic and the kids seem really nice. We had allotted 2 hours for drop off, but after about 30 minutes we were clearly in the way, so we left Burke and Holden to have fun with their new friends.

Dropping our bags off in the coatroom

From there, we were off to the foreign police to register (a legal requirement within 3 business days of arriving in the country). We did have a little mishap when I jumped on a metro that was closing and left Don Cooley standing on the platform. Luckily we found each other a few stops away...

Waiting for Don to find me in Hradcanska...

At the foreign police it was a little crazy... Lots of little rooms with "Policie" that didn't speak any English and were all business. Fortunately my company has contracted with different company's to help us every step of the way, otherwise I'm pretty sure we would not have made it though the process. The take a number system was in Czech and way out of our league, so we would have been doomed :).

Dominika was a pro and we were "legal" in about an hour.

We went to pick up the kids and found them giggling with their new friends and making snacks. The report was positive - they were lively and participated throughout the day.

Helping make snacks for tomorrow

We left the school on a mission: FIND RAIN BOOTS! We took the bus to the metro to a mall where we had seen a few shoe stores, but alas, no shoes in our sizes :(

Riding the metro

Undeterred, we rode the metro to Wenceslas Square and tried like 8 other shoe stores before we hit the jackpot. We found a Bata's that not only had a variety of rain boots, they had a slide! Success!

Shoe store with a slide? Yes, please!

New boots! Time to stomp in some puddles!

Dinner was soup, salad and pizza (maybe some wine for the adults...) in a little hole in the wall and was delicious!

We celebrated a successful first day with a banana split...

This was Holden when we arrived

This was Holden about 3 minutes later when his sundae arrived

No worries, Burke was up for the challenge!

I've never seen anything like this.... we asked Holden (who was sleeping)
if he wanted ice cream and his little mouth popped open. Eyes still shut!

He ate 4 or 5 bites, but never opened his eyes.

Burke says "don't waste it!"

So many sweets and they were so cheap!! These cake slices were like $2.00
