Day 1: Tourists

We're spending our first week in Prague at a hotel (the Hilton Old Town Prague) because our landlords are out of town on vacation and our air shipment won't arrive for a week or two anyway. Since we're in city center, we decided we might as well be tourists.

The Concierge recommended the zoo, so we asked her how to get there. She took one look at us and said "You should take a taxi. It's complicated." We explained to her that we were trying to learn how to use public transportation, so she took out a map and told us to get on the yellow metro, transfer to the red metro  and then take a bus. No problem!

The bus was PACKED and a sweet older lady (who spoke no English) insisted on having Burke and Holden sit on her lap. She talked to them in Czech the whole way to the zoo and they just smiled and told her they were going to the zoo :). She even walked us to the ticket counter. I totally wanted a picture, but I thought it might freak her out a little if the crazy American started snapping her photo.

We had a nice time at the zoo, but the highlight was definitely the chair lift... It was CRAZY!! It was like a throwback to maybe the 60's or 70's. It was single chairs riding up and down a steep hill. They chairs never stopped, people just hopped on as they flew by and there were just link chains that could be hooked across, but most people didn't hook the chain. People would just hop on with their kids on their laps. Don and I watched for at least 15 minutes (with out mouths open). We had almost talked ourselves into doing it when Burke said "Mommy, Daddy - do you think we could go see some animals?" Maybe we'll conquer the chair lift next time... :)
The infamous chairlift...

The rest of the day was fun. The highlights include watching polar bears swim/play, riding horses, pizza for dinner and crepes for dessert. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
