USA! USA! USA!

We were so lucky this year that the Ice Hockey World Championships were held in the Czech Republic. The teams were playing in 2 locations: Prague and Ostrava. Ostrava is a smaller town a few hours east of Prague, close to the Polish border (aka: my home away from home) and since Don hadn't yet seen Poland, so we decided to take a road trip and catch USA vs. Denmark (which is pronounced with a rolllllling R if you're Czech :).

Nothing says Czech Republic or World Championship Hockey like a McDonalds on wheels
Faces painted for the game

I think Don tried on every USA related piece of clothing in the fan shop

Ready for the puck to drop!

There's no such thing as a hockey game without cheerleaders...

The kids' first wave!!

After the hockey game we spent the night in Ostrava and continued on to Krakow, Poland. We walked along the river, enjoyed the beautiful city and of course ate some pierogies!

This restaurant (Pod Wawelemhad a scale so you can weigh yourself before and after your meal..

A schnitzel bigger than their heads

A little dessert on the square

We had such a great time in Ostrava at the hockey game, we decided to watch USA vs. Russia from the Fan Zone at O2 Arena in Prague (and Don actually went to watch 2 more games with friends).
Johnston Chiefs!! Slapshot!! Love it!!
The Moves Like Jagr drink was pretty nasty... Go figure.

I wish I knew what Don said and am also glad that they thought it was funny.

The guy wrapped in a Soviet Flag... he looks lonely... I wonder why....

It's important to note that during our weekend trip to Poland we also visited Auschwitz concentration camp. We didn't take any pictures while we were there, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the visit. Many people have asked us how it was or what it was like... there really aren't words to describe such a horrific place, but what we saw and learned in Auschwitz will stay with us forever. We are glad that we went, had the opportunity to pay our respects and to honor the more than 1 million lives that were lost there.
