Venice: Where the streets have no... wait, there are no streets?
One of the best things about living Europe for a few years is that we have the chance to visit so many cool places in a short period of time. For our summer vacation we thought the best way to enjoy a tour of Europe would be to cruise and picked a cruise that departed from Venice, Italy because we really wanted to see Venice and we LOVED it. Easily my favorite city in the world (so far!).

Waiting for our water taxi
We knew that Venice was built on a marsh and that the roads are actually canals and people get around by either walking along the side or riding in small boats (especially gondolas), but nothing could have prepared us for how beautiful the city is. It was breathtaking. Here are some of our favorite pictures and memories from our 2 nights in Venice.
Riding on the water taxi
We stayed at a great little B&B called B&B San Firmino (http://www.sanfirmino.it/en/) in a great location. The owner was super nice and had a great 2 bedroom family room.
Our B&B from the canal
Outside the B&B from the square: Campo Santa Maria Formosa
This was the view from our room. We overlooked part of the Campo Santa Maria Formosa square and at night there were some neat street performers. This was our favorite.
For our two days in Venice, we mostly just walked around and enjoyed the city. The food was amazing, the views were beautiful and the gondolas were so cool.

Gondolas aren't the only way to get around the city...
Pizza!!
Green apple juice
Delicious buffalo mozz
A little tiramisu
The kids liked to stand on bridges and tell the gondola drivers
to "duck your head!" then run to the other side and yell
"you made it!"
St. Mark's Basilica
Some Italian beer in St. Mark's Square
The Bridge of Sighs
This is how the kids entertained themselves when not taking in the sights.
Chasing pigeons never gets old
Look, Dad! I can do that too!
No trip to Venice is complete without a gondola ride!

Ready for a ride!
View of the Rialto Bridge from the gondola
For lunch after our gondola ride we went to Alfredino's Fresh Pasta To Go. It was unreal. Absolutely the best pasta ever. We had seen people walking around with these to-go boxes and then we found the place. Every time we walked by there was a line of 20+ people, so we decided to give it a shot. Best. Decision. Ever. Venice was the perfect start to our vacation - we couldn't have asked for more.
